*~*Monday*~*

Devon yawned aloud. He had been at Nan’s house all day watching television and was getting bored quickly. He knew Nan would be home soon but he wanted some fresh air. He grabbed his jacket and left a note for Nan telling her he was going jogging around the neighborhood. The cool, fresh air greeted Devon. He walked around block after block. He ended up at the beach. He took off his shoes and walked in the cool sand. A couple of cute girls were sitting on a blanket. One was comforting the other who seemed to be crying. Bits of their conversation drifted to Devon’s ears.

“ He isn’t worth it...Get over him please!” Devon smiled thinking of the way girls obsessed over guys who broke their hearts. Devon briskly walked up to the two girls.

“ Listen to your friend, no guy is worth crying over.” The one who wasn’t crying looked up and smiled.

“ Thanks. I don’t think I was doing such a great job by myself. I’m Cheyenne.”

“ I’m Devon. And who is this?” The sobbing girl quieted.

“ My n-name is Melissa.” She dabbed her eyes with the corner of the beach towel.

“ Hey Melissa I’m going to go get you some tissues. Devon, do you mind sitting with her? I’ll be right back.”

“ No I don’t mind at all.” Cheyenne jogged off in search of some tissues. Melissa’s shoulders slumped and she began shaking again. Devon lightly placed his arm around her.

“ It’s okay. I’m going to make you laugh. Like it or not.” Devon tried to think of something that had always made him laugh when he was upset. “ Ah-ha! It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood...” Devon launched into the theme song from Mr. Roger’s neighborhood and rocked himself and Melissa to the beat. Melissa smiled and lightly laughed for a brief moment.

“ See I told you I’d make you laugh!”

“ Hey, I’m back!” Cheyenne exclaimed. She had a whole roll of toilet tissue. Melissa unrolled a few sheets and wiped her eyes and runny nose.

“ Cheyenne, he sang to me and made me laugh. He sang that song from Mister Roger’s Neighborhood.” Cheyenne laughed and sent Devon a gracious look.

“ Well I do enjoy entertaining people.” Devon glanced at his watch. “ Hey I better go. Do you all go to SVH?”

“ Yes.” they said at the same time.

“ Cool, maybe I’ll see you all around campus or something. Bye!”

“ Bye!” Cheyenne said.

“ Cya!” Melissa added sending Devon a flirtatious smile. Devon smiled back. I hope I see her again too. He thought.
